Rockefeller Views

Everyone goes to the top of the Empire State, but arguably better views can be had from the Rockerfeller centre. However it still costs a similar amount (around $20) to get to 'the Top of the Rock'.

As an alternative, go to the Rainbow Room bar at the Rockerfeller, only a floor or two below. There is no cover charge for this providing you have a drink. Admittedly the cost of the drink is as breathtaking as the view, but for pretty much the same price as the entrance to the observation deck you can sit and watch the sun go down high over Manhattan with the biggest Martini you've ever laid eyes on.

Just one thing - watch out for the lifts going down. There are no floor buttons inside, you have to dial your destination before you get in. After several buckets of gin martini this did seem to be beyond us.
